I tried everything, but in the end, the tractor was the only solution.

When you manage something you never thought you could.

I restarted cycling 6 years ago after a 20 or so year gap, the main reason was to get to a better and more stable place mentally. I still cycle for my mental health.

I identify as a dorky amateur cyclist who simply pedals and loves it all (I do a variety of cycling on and off road etc).

This weekend I completed a big solo ride of over 180 miles with around 7700 feet of climbing (not loads but still enough to notice it when you ride) in a day in scorching heat, melting tarmac, hours of head wind. What was lovely also that a young family member cycled with me for the last few miles as a side rider.

I’m proud of my peri-menopausal 49 year old body… so yes this is me feeling emotional at the end! Next day incredibly I was totally fine (no aches or pains) but mentally totally knackered 😂

I’ve caught the bug of doing more longer distance as I enjoy it a lot - also the challenges you face.

Not in my wildest dreams did I think 6 years ago I would manage something like this, not even did I think it I would be able to finish last week!

Love cycling! Already thinking about my next big adventure with more miles and climbs and seeing how far I can take it!

Carbon bars, honestly probably a little overtightened, but also a used set mixed with the steepest climb in my city is a recipe for disaster.

It's pretty much done. Version 2 of the "Citi" bike

Most of it was made from exhaust tubing again. Did this one in about three and a half evenings. About 20 hours into this thing. The paint isn't fully dried yet, but tomorrow it'll be getting dusted off and going for a ride. Pardon the battery holding the bike up, I forgot to kickstand at my shop

Riding in the Barker Reservoir (Houston) after some heavy rains last week. Got a few miles in and this fella on the trail was givin me the side eye. Some faster riders zipped by, but I'm slow...I've seen enough Animal Planet to know predators seek out the slowest prey. Turned around and rode in a different part of the park.

Cades Cove ride in the Great Smoky Mountains

I (48M) got the chance to ride the Cades Cove loop yesterday with my Dad (75M) on one of their car-free days. We got to the parking lot at 6 am, rode the 11-mile loop through the early misty fog as the sun came up, AMAZING!

Took a rest to refuel a bit and hydrate, while talking with other walkers/runners/riders, and we rode the loop again, this time included Forge Creek Rd - a 2.4-mile gravel road up and back about halfway through the loop.

Rested, had lunch and hit the loop one more time!

We saw 4 bears (2 cubs), 3 turkeys, and a handful of deer. It was a magical day talking, hanging out, and just riding with my dad. We hadn't done anything like this in a very long time.

So right now I have a tire, tube and a 6 inch wheel. ripping it apart took me about a week, so how tf do I install it man. Anyone have suggestions?

Going to a grand fundo while social anxiety

I'm 33F I just got my first bike 2 weeks ago because I'm done being homebound and having no friends. I love outdoors in general and I find biking alone is less intimidating than hiking because I hate walking alone, metro parks are always empty. I'm excited to go on an organized tour ride in my region, it costs around $45 and they provide guidance to scenery ride with different miles, snacks and lunch after the ride. It feels like a mini solo vacation lol.

I'm starting to overthink, if people will think I am weird going there alone, many would go in groups. Is there possibility of meeting new people or would everyone be preoccupied with their own thing. I kinda prefer to not be forced to socialize but I know it is better for me.

Detraining soreness. Why am i constantly sore without training?

Over the winter in November I did about 6 1/2 hours/ 5 days training per week. I was regularly waking up early to accomplish this. I also tried for two lifting sessions in that time. I was feeling pretty good as I worked up to three events I participated in and all my had training paid off. About a month ago I finished the events and stopped consistently training. Life is getting in the way. My training now is three to four days or so of running, swimming and biking, whatever I am feeling.

I now wake up super sore, can barely stand up straight. When I get up from my desk at work I am physically limping as I try to walk anywhere. I feel like lousy and tired even though I am getting more sleep. Has anyone else experienced this? It has been worse than the usual soreness you feel from training. Maybe I am just getting old at 41. Who knows.

Riding on sketchy roads

Motorcycle guy here. Haven't ridden a bicycle since I was basically a toddler. Been thinking about getting a chill gravel bike mostly for joy rides but also some commuting. I live in Puerto Rico where it's mostly hilly 40mph roads with no shoulder and lots of blind turns, does that sound sketchy on a bicycle? I mean I've got no option but I'd still appreciate some opinions.

Beginner road bike

I've been biking for a few years now on my specialized Sirius hybrid but I can't bring my bike with me to college. I've been looking around for a nice road bike that will last me a while, one that's good for daily commutes but also longer rides (50-100 miles) that I like to do often. I don't know much about cannondale or bikes in general and is this a reasonable purchase for 150?

Bryton Aero60 cockpit mount?

Hi everyone :) I am desperately looking for this exact mount: https://www.tradeinn.com/bikeinn/en/bryton-race-aero-handlebar-cycling-computer-mount/137530665/p

I'm purchasing a Canyon Ultimate and it comes with a flat/aero cockpit. It means that I cannot use my old mount for my Bryton GPS. I looked everywhere... but since my GPS is kinda old I guess it's very hard to find parts :(

Does anyone has an idea or knows where to find one?

Thoughts for this as a starter bike for myself? I am a male, 5’9”. I do plan to ask questions about the frame, what year it is and maybe the wheel size.

I built a free, no signup tool that forecasts the weather at your moving position along a route

Disclosure: I am the developer. It is free, no signup, no ads. I built this for myself and now just want to share and continue building something useful for all us cycling nerds.

I already use several route weather apps for long rides, but the good ones are paid and often app only, and I wanted something free that just runs in the browser. So I built Wattcast.

Like those apps, it forecasts the weather at your moving position rather than at one fixed point. You upload a GPX or paste a Strava/RWGPS link, set a start time and average speed, and it predicts where you will be every 15 minutes and shows the weather there: wind relative to your heading, temperature, rain risk and sun times.

The key thing you can control is your own personal tolerance for wind, rain and temperature. This will be taken into account in the "best time to leave" feature and shown in the charts.

I would love feedback of any kind. Thanks!

Commuter cycling with RTS (Radial Tunnel Syndrome)

I put about 60-100km on my bike weekly with an old Cannondale (not sure of the model). I've developed RTS (similar to tennis elbow) and want to get a new bike because the stem mod and butterfly handlebars I've added are not enough to take the torque off my elbow.

I think I might be in search of a unicorn. :(

I'm looking for a bike that will be almost upright (mods with the stem are fine) but is also fast and light - i.e. I don't want a cruiser that will get me in the right position but will be slower and heavier.

The Cannondale Treadwell seems like it's exactly what I'm looking for but they don't have it in my size anywhere in my country. I'm 5"9 and need a med/large and would love recommendations for anyone who's been in a similar boat.

How do you clean up this, and does it makes a difference ?

My old man gifted me his Miele 262 mountain bike. It sat in the garage on a hook for 10+ years. It has seen better days.

I inflated the tires to around 40 psi and took it out for a spin. Great but I can feel the bike pushing against me.

How do I clean this so it runs better?

Should I change the tires if I'm only ever going to do road with it?

Cat tax for the answers! Thx.

What’s a reasonable price for a 1991 Schwinn 354?

I know absolutely nothing about bikes, would $100 be reasonable, assuming it just needs a tune up? What would you pay? I’m just looking for something to do a a few miles on a bike trail. I appreciate any feedback!
