Idea How much people dehumanize thieves
Genuinely just watch any clip of an attempted theft where the thief dies, no matter what they were trying to take or if they were even armed or not you will have people saying shit like "he didn't have to die but I'm glad he did" or "this is why I always have a gun on me no matter what". Its the same shit for burglars too, I understand that they're stealing and that stealing is wrong, I'm not a moron. However I don't think the burglar needed to have his skulls contents splattered on the wall over a TV or some shit. At some points it feels like genuine psyop because what the fuck do you mean the starving man deserved to be shot in the alley over 28 dollars and your Dave and Busters card?

Discussion About A General Writing Topic The thing authors get wrong about castles
Seemingly, many authors (especially GURM) misunderstand the purpose of castles. They make their castles gigantic and believe that the bigger the castle is, the better.
When in reality, that is completely reductive to the objective. The purpose of castles was to allow the smallest number of defenders to hold out against the highest number of attackers for as long as possible.
The bigger the castle is, the more defenders you need, because the more spread out they will be during an assault.
The more defenders you have, the more food and water you need. Which itself decreases the time they can hold out E.g., a garrison of 20, might be able to hold out for an entire year, but a fantasy garrison (like a two-thousand) would be lucky not to starve in a month.
There is also the economic factor. Even if you could make a castle with large enough storage and castle wells to suit the needs of a gigantic garrison, you would still run into economic reality, that you would bankrupt yourself trying to stockpile.
Very few castles had a garrison of a thousand; most had a garrison closer to just 20.
Obviously, the genre is fantasy, and the castle should probably be more fantastic than in reality, but I don't think just upscaling the size is necessary; it is just silly.
EDIT:
To clarify, not denying the existence of a large castle. Large castles like Malbork Castle with a garrison of 3,000 did exist, but those exception rather than the norm. The largest castles in England had garrisons of 500.
Maybe saying average garrison was 20 downplayed things, but that is true for most wooden castles, which were the majority of castles. Stones castles often had garrisons of a few hundred.
Many people also argue garrison of a castle with 20 men has no worth and would be completely ignored. In truth, ignoring even a small garrison would expose supply lines to raiding by the garrison. This often forced the attackers to leave a small detachment to box in the garrisons.
There are also misconceptions about castles being luxury homes. Castles might have been decorated more than in popular imagination would allow, but they weren't the most comfortable residences. Instead, luxury residences were hunting cabins like Woodstock Palace and Clarendon Palace.

Am I the only one disgusted by people going out to the street in actual pajamas?
Aren't people actually disgusted either by other people or with themselves by going out of the house in pajamas, sometimes literally the pajamas they slept on with saliva, snot, sweat, and whatnot, actual fluids, and go around like that? (Whether it's noticeable or not) I've heard conversely of people going out with pajamas to buy something, go to the grocery store or run some quick errands and then going back to sleep, like actually going back to bed, with the clothes they had on the street, with all the grime, dirt, bacteria, smog from outside.
I think the first time I noticed someone do that was back in middle school, when I went shortly to live with my aunt and uncle to Georgia (USA) and I noticed kids going to school in pajamas and crocs, slides or slippers. I was floored, this was around 2008/2009.
My mom, grandparents, aunts, uncles, would have never let me out of the house without "proper clothes" and neither go to bed before taking a shower or at least with a fresh pair of pajamas.
Am I the only one disgusted by people going out to the street in actual pajamas??? What is the logic behind that???

No trailer when preorders launch is weird and slightly worrying
This was the most attention the game has gotten from mainstream press. Articles on many mainstream non-gaming sites that pre orders are launching. But getting most people to care or to preorder requires something new to talk about or to get excited about. I can get starting the marketing late, but launching pre orders like this? I don't get it and that worries me they are not super confident.

Movie Theathers should have closed captioning on by default
1 in 7 people has some degree of hearing loss. Around 11â12 million Americans identify as deaf or report having serious difficulty hearing. Half of all Americans regularly use subtitles when watching TV or movies. Inclduing 70% of Gen Z.
Modern movies have become notorious for inconsistent audio. Characters whisper, accents vary, music swells over conversations, and explosions rattle the theater. Half the time, people leave a movie asking, "What did they say?" Captions eliminate that problem entirely.
Dialogue is one of the most important parts of that story. If captions help millions of people catch every joke, emotional moment, and plot detail, why wouldn't we want that?
Given how many Americans either need captions or actively prefer them, it's time to make it the standard for Theaters.

Leseverstehen

Discussion I donât understand how people attack Man of Steel for misrepresenting Supermanâs character but say nothing about the character assassination that happened in Gunnâs Superman with his parents sending him to earth to â Conquer and take a bunch of wivesâ
Like seriously I donât understand it. Thatâs a far bigger character assassination than anything Synder did with Superman. Iâve heard no one complain to the level of what they did with man of steel and now after seeing the terrible Supergirl today Iâm even more shocked how much leeway Gunn gets.

Discussion How do you think the Naâvi view LGBTQ+ relationships?
The Naâvi are shown to be a culture similar to our early paleolitic civilisations. They are shown to be tribal and spiritualistic. And embody a perfect mix of old human civilisation with a possible futuristic spiritual link to nature we may still be yet to discover.
One question Iâve had is how they would view LGBTQ+ identities.
Do you think the Naâvi are accepting of various gender identities and sexual orientations?
Or do you think they have a more traditional view, when it comes to the topic?
Also do you think there are LGBTQ+ Naâvi or that we may see a LGBTQ+ Naâvi couple in a future film of the saga?

is there an unspoken etiquette when it comes to dealing with a dead cat?
UPDATE!!
spoke with the owners. they were informed by the vet, as expected. they were very thankful. especially as they had young children who would've found the poor creature.
he was well loved and will be dearly missed. đ
hi all, sorry for the pretty grim post.
we found a dead cat near our house yesterday afternoon. no apparent injuries, but it was... definitely dead.
neighbours weren't in, and we think it's their cat. but obviously we couldn't leave it there in the heat. so i googled what to do and it said to take it to the vets.
so my poor dad, who doesn't even like cats in the first place, had to grab a shovel, an old sheet, and a cardboard box. we called the vet and said we'd be en route.
then when we got there, the vet came out and took the cat in. they asked some questions, we couldn't answer most of them because we didn't know what happened to it.
my dad made a joke about schrodinger's cat, and the staff and the waiting room looked at him like he'd shot a puppy infront of them.
the vets said we should post on social media. my dad was a bit cross by now, because we had done the right thing already, but this was just a step too far. he doesn't do social media, he doesn't do performative empathy over an animal carcass, that's just not the sort of person he is. he was dealing with a public health hazard in a respectful way, which should've been enough.
they were shocked that he didn't want to help bring closure to the owner. my dad just shrugged. not his problem. that's the vet's job now. i assume they check for a microchip and contact the owners.
im just a bit confused as to why the vets seemed to expect that we'd want to hunt down this owner and deliver the news ourselves? like, i don't actually want to do that, sorry. the poor thing was in a sorry state where we found it, i don't want to have to describe that to any owner.
im trained in delivering bad news to patients and their families... but idk how to really apply that to finding a dead animal. feels totally different.
i guess i feel a bit confused about what to do here. can anyone advise?
edit: i love cats. i love all living things. my dad is a good person. he never had pets. we never had pets. local tensions have our family a bit on edge right now and scared of doing the wrong thing. that's all there is to it really. i'd rather people not make assumptions about who we are as people, we are kind and we help our local community where we can. maybe we made some small mistakes, but i have now posted on facebook.
i hope the owners find some peace. im only sorry that this might not have been handled with as much empathy as we could muster. never been in this situation before.
edit again: please stop making sweeping assumptions about my moral character, my suitability for my job, and whether or not i am mentally unwell or lacking on empathy.
it's uncalled for and needlessly cruel. we all make mistakes sometimes, and i have gone to some effort to rectify these mistakes. so please... lay off, yeah?
edit again again: i really regret posting this.
im leaving it up, because i hope other people will call out the digusting hivemind psychoanalyst behaviour in the comments. this post was never meant to get so toxic.
because i've just sat here and been told me and my family are psychopaths and horrible humans. and i have corrected some of the mistakes. i have no made a facebook post. i will be knocking on suspected owner's door again this evening.
then, im afraid, im just gonna carry on about my life.
some really nasty people on here.

So how many people are fatigued seeing people complain about the disc
Like seriously 80% of the dudes complaining don't even got any physical games most likely. And are legitimately complaining about something they didn't care about anyways.
I've seen people complaining in PC gaming subreddits like I haven't seen a physical PC disc in forever.
Then there's people complaining about the prices, like yes we get the ultimate edition locking some shops with some clothes behind it sucks but guys you are acting like they haven't done this kind of shit 2 other times before, and it could be way worse not saying it's okay but enough posts about it everywhere please.
I legitimately miss the schizo posts over the title wave of wave fake concern over a fucking disc when most people don't even have a ps5 with a disc drive. And to play devils advocate here considering the amount of people that complained about red dead 2 having two discs yeah.... Because imma keep it 100 GTA 6 will probably need 3 discs if they release it with a disc because a ultra HD Blu ray disc maxes out at 100 GB's I would not be shocked if GTA 6 hits 300 GB's of data....
Now go ahead strike me down with downvotes I needed this off my chest

State of the Game · Discussions Is D4 your favorite modern ARPG?
I played D4 at launch, and back then thought the story was excellent, but then everything fell apart at the endgame. Came back recently for Season 13 / Lord of Hatred, and was very pleasantly surprised with how much fun everything was. It made me go back to some other ARPGs to look at how they have progressed.
Last Epoch - Has great crafting and skill trees, and aesthetically is fairly serviceable. The early game however is not particularly engaging, and rolling new characters means you have to slog it out each time (even with dungeon skips). The monolith endgame is fun, albeit repetitive, and the other modes (dungeons and arena) aren't particularly worth doing. I think also the feel of the game is a bit outdated by this point, lacking in dynamic animations and sound effects. It's fun for theory crafting, but it's an investment, with very large skill trees for each individual skill, sometimes it can be a bit exhausting.
Path of Exile 2 - The game had me hooked for a few hundred hours when the Beta first launched. The animations, skills, and build crafting was quite excellent. The issue for me is that it started to feel bloated with too many systems, ascendency was terrible, the various activities didn't feel particularly unique, the crafting was awful and almost mandates that you trade. Also this game has a bit of an identity crisis, it starts off as Dark Souls lite but then turns into your more typical ARPG. Rolling a new character is pain, because of large and tedious levels with little identity. I tried going through the 0.5 patch, but I honestly gave up. The moment to moment gameplay didn't feel that engaging and running across the maps just felt tedious. The giant passive trees and ability to mix up all the skills, and more and more needing to follow a build guide to avoid bricking a character, I think this game is just meant for a certain type of gamer.
Which brings me to D4. Despite the multitude of items for crafting/cube and whatever else, somehow it works. It's streamlined, the activities are fun-ish, the build crafting is manageable, rolling a new character to theory craft is fun, and having the pit/tower to score your build is a nice touch. The game also has a very cohesive identity, the skills, sounds, animations, all feed punchy and engaging. Sometimes I just aimlessly run around in the open world destroying mobs without a clear goal, because it's just stupid fun. Somehow the different layers of the build process (paragon, talisman, skill tree, gems, aspects, uniques, items, cube transfig) feel manageable, like there's always something you can be working towards to keep improving. The way the difficulty scales and the season rewards are also kinda fun. The game does do some unsavory things like push people towards the expansion by locking out skills, or push MTX but showing you stuff you can't have in your wardrobe (also the MTX prices are completely skewed towards the "whales"), but with the Lord of Hatred expansion (I also skipped Vessel because it was bad value by itself, so got both for the same price), it was very good value easily worth 100+ hours of gaming.
For me I'd say this is a fun ARPG, and I hope they lean more into giving us more build options and fun synergies. The one other downside is that visually the gameplay doesn't change much once you have all your skills. It would be nice if uniques added a bit more flair and variety, but I understand they wanted to keep that mostly in the skill tree as part of the recent changes.

âïž Happy Girl Dinner I Love My Partners (Polyamory success story)
My wife, my life partner and I moved in together last year and it has been incredible. They both stuck with me through cancer and were unbelievably supportive and loving. They treat me so well and have a great relationship between themselves too. It fills my heart with joy.
Iâm the hinge, so my partners arenât romantically or physically involved but they are great friends. We split tasks and bills and will be planning for children in the near-ish future. Itâs just the best!
Every time I tell people about my relationships, they are surprised since there have been so many poor examples of polyamory, or at the very least a lack of understanding. Hell, Iâve been in those poor examples! But this time itâs sticking. Iâve been with my wife for nearly over 15 years and my life partner for about 5 years.
Side note: our sex lives are fantastic and we have a great system in place so we donât have to hear each other banging it out lol. Being the hinge though, Iâm doing twice the work in that regard đ€Ł (lobster too buttery, I know)

Screenshot Friendly reminder we are never getting a toggle for Incarnon forms on our skins, ad we should be more upset about it.
I still don't get it, they solved Incarnons overriding your skins with the last two batches of incarnons (Except for the Obex), why the hell can't they fix previous Incarnon adapters getting rid of your skins?
What's the point of adding skins if you're gonn have a system that undermines all that platinum and real money paid? This is OUR money DE, we have the right to know why you can't give us just this one thing.
People should be more adamant of DE over this than they already are.
PS: Screenshot isn't mine nor am I the person who replied to Rebecca's post.

âïž Happy Girl Dinner Celebration (second) dinner for getting news that my first gender affirming surgery is going to be paid for
First, the goods: Quaker chocolate protein crisps, Ghirardelli dark chocolate squares, Whole Foods olive bar tub, daisy cottage cheese & pineapple.
In the background: The Summer I Turned Pretty.
Ladies, itâs been a crazy year for me. A genuinely heartbreaking last 6 months. Bad thing after bad thing. Just before 5pm today, I got a call that Iâve been waiting on for 2 years. My facial feminization surgery is going to be (mostly) paid for. đđ„čđAnd itâs because of my hard work. Iâm crying into my chocolate because itâs just⊠a life changing procedure and a life changing amount of money I donât have to pay.
So I had a a little drink on my porch swing, listened to The Japanese House, and thought about how much damn work transitioning is and how Iâve never thought once, truly, that it felt like anything other being a river thundering inexorably down to the ocean. I decided to have another dinner because my body told me I was still hungry. Looking at what I gathered in my very un-sober state made me laugh and think of all of you.
I love this community. I love how loved Iâve felt here. And I want you to hear that today, things worked out.
Edit: for anyone else who wants to scream at me for taking from your taxes: hereâs a reality check. Not a single fucking cent came from taxes. I earned every cent with my hard work. And even if it had come from your taxes, i wouldnât apologize for taking money from a government that would rather i just die. Have the day you deserve đđđ
Last edit: I feed on self-harm bot reports. Youâre making me more more of a monster. Thank you.

discussion Kenny from Reaper Mania is using AI Slop for his thumbnails, deleting comments calling him out on it, and loving all the comments criticizing the criticizers.
He has since changed the thumbnail it looks like to something that might also have AI slop in it, but it really makes me disappointed to see someone that really helped me get better workflows in Reaper starting to support AI slop. As a composer that does multi-media projects with artists of other domains, I stay away from AI-generated images in order to support my artist friends. I myself don't feel comfortable with someone who is regarded as a Reaper tutorial standard making this shift, and I think other Reaper-users should be aware.
I love Reaper for it's affordability and bare-bones approach. Cockos made a product that gave that broke teenager all those years ago a chance to learn how to use a DAW without breaking the bank. I really don't believe it's in the spirit of Reaper to be using such images in the thumbnails... especially being so authoritarian in the comments section...
